Renovated guest room at Haryana Bhavan in Hyderabad featuring classical wall and ceiling mouldings, updated furniture and a simple contemporary interior.

Haryana Bhavan

Haryana Bhavan involved the phased renovation of 20 guest rooms and their washrooms in Hyderabad. The existing layouts were retained, while the interiors were completely updated for improved comfort and easier maintenance. Classical wall and ceiling mouldings connect the renewed rooms with the building’s existing architectural character.

The renovation of Haryana Bhavan focused on updating 20 guest rooms and their washrooms while allowing the property to remain operational throughout the process.

The client’s primary requirements were to modernise the rooms, improve guest comfort and introduce finishes that would be easier to maintain. While the existing room and washroom layouts were retained, the interiors were otherwise completely renewed.

Rather than creating rooms that felt disconnected from the building, classical wall and ceiling mouldings were introduced to complement Haryana Bhavan’s existing classical façade. These details allowed the renovated interiors to retain a connection with the architectural character of the property while still offering a fresher and more comfortable guest experience.

The biggest challenge was managing the renovation without disturbing the Bhavan’s ongoing activities. Execution was therefore planned in phases, with four rooms taken up at a time. Each set had to be completed before the next phase could begin, helping maintain room availability and reduce disruption for guests and staff.

The overall design was intentionally simple and practical. The project demonstrated that successful renovation is not always dependent on elaborate design interventions. Careful planning, clear phasing and coordination can have an equally important impact on the final execution.

Design Insight :

Good renovation planning is not limited to what a space will look like. It must also consider how the work will be executed, especially when an operational property cannot be closed during construction.
